The easiest solution to create backup and restoring you database in OpenERP is itself provided by OpenERP. To create backup and restore for your OpenERP database, you have two options: 1.) PostgreSQL 2.) OpenERP.

The first one is simple and very commonly used by almost all the users. But you would be surprised how conveniently you do the same thing with OpenERP in just few minutes (depending upon the size of the db).

Steps to create backup and restore in OpenERP:

    1. Go to the OpenERP login screen and click on the Manage Databases link.

    2. Select Backup from the left pane menu. Select the database you want to create the backup of and enter the password of this database. Click Backup button.

    3. The backup file with .dump extension will be created and saved to your downloads.

    4. The next step is to restore. Click on Back to Login in the left pane menu.

    5. Go to Manage Databases link again, select Restore.

    6. Choose the file from downloads or browse and enter the password, enter a name for the new database, click on Restore button.

That's about it. No need to run any script or wait for pgAdmin.
