    SQL Server Reporting Services is a server based reporting platform that consists of full range of ready-to-use tools and services to assist you to create, deploy and manage reports. Reporting Services allows creating interactive, tabular or free-form reports using various relational, multidimensional and XML based datasources.

     

    Some features of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) are listed as follows:
     

    1. SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is also called Microsoft SQL reporting.
    2. It's a component of Microsoft Business Intelligence Stack.
    3. Microsoft Business Intelligence Stack mainly consists of SQL Database Engine, SSRS, SSAS, SSIS and other tools.
    4. Two primary tools to create SSRS reports are Report Builder and Report Designer.
    5. SSRS is a set of readymade tools that helps you to create, deploy and manage reports.
    6. In order to make reports more flexible for business users, there are additional components like Report parameter, Experssions, Actions and Custom code.
    7. Microsoft SSRS lets you create different kind of reports like Tabular, Graphical, Interactive and Free form using various datasources with rich data visualization added by various report items like Charts, Maps, Sparklines etc.
    8. All these reports can be viewed via web browsers.
    9. SSRS allows reports to be exported in various formats (PDF, Excel. Word etc).
    10. SSRS consists of an e-mail delivery system which provides a way to e-mail a report to an individual or group of users.
    11. SSRS consists of a file share delivery extension which allows delivering a report to a folder. It is available by default and doesn't require additional configuration.
    12. SSRS employs security features to enable appropriate level of security, in order to control, who sees which reports etc.
