There are four main components of Pentaho Data Integration tool:

4: CARTE

SPOON

It is a graphical design interface for buildings ETL jobs and transformation. It provide a way to create complex ETL jobs. This is the main tool in which you will edit, run or debug a transformation or job.

PAN

It is a standalone command line process that can be used to execute transformations you created in spoon. One can manipulate data using PAN. It read and write data to various data sources.

Kitchen

It is a standalone command line process that can be used to execute jobs. It can be used to schedule the jobs to run in batch mode at regular intervals.

Carte

It is a lightweight Web container. It provide remote execution capability similar to Data Integration Server.
