Using a selection tool to cut an particular image portion in photoshop we are going to use refine edge to modify the selection so that we can use it in a better way. For this first we need an Image. Open it in the photoshop.

Use the Brightness and level settings to add more contrast in it.

Now from the above you can see it is an image of a girl swimming in a water. It is kind of tricky to cut. So for this kind of image, we use refine edge to get the selection more smoother.

So make a selection around the girl.

Now to open the pallete of the refine edge, you can go to select menu and from there have the access, or use the command alt+ctrl+R (pc). You can also click on the button below the view and window menu at the upper portion of the window.

Here I am using a mask option to make a selection use in a mask mode. So click on the mask option below the layer pallete.

Now right click on the mask link on the layer of the image.

As you have seen the options inside this pallete,

here at the top you have view mode for the viewing purpose of the mask.

then there is Edge detection for the broadness of the selection mask. And beneath this it is Adjust Edge for the for the sharpness and the smoothness of the selection mask.

And at the last it is the Output Option, the check mark should always be enabled and the amount should be at 100% so that you should get the total spill from th background image.

So now click okay and you will have the selection mask with smoothness.

Now to apply the selection effect on the layer mask gives the benefit to apply the brush to make the image appearence as per your need.

for the rest of the work you can use the different blend mode and brushes to create the depth to your artwork as I did in here.

Thanks for reading it and I hope you have liked the article regarding the refine edge, if you have any query regarding this topic please feel free to discuss it in the comments.
