    MIME stands for - Multi-purpose Internet Mail Extensions.

    MIME types represents a unique file types as pre-defined over Internet.


    Web servers and browsers have a list of MIME types, which make a medium for files transfer of the same type in the same way they working in operating system.


    A MIME type contain two parts:-

    • type
    • subtype.

    Both part separated by a slash (/).


    Example -

    • MIME type for PDF files is application and the subtype is pdf, i.e. application/pdf.
    • MIME type for Microsoft Word files is application and the subtype is msword, i.e. application/msword.
