Today's blog post highlights the use of Data Manager in MDM. It also gives an overview of the various tasks that can be carried out using the same in Informatica MDM hub.
Data Manager Overview
Data Manager is a component of the Data Steward workbench. Use Data Manager to:
- Search for and filter base object records
- View base objects and their associated cross-references in the same screen
- Unmerge two or more records
- View base object history records
- Create new and Edit base object records
- Override base object trust settings
Data Manager has two screens:
1. Setup : This screen allows user to select amongst the options to work with i.e. base object, packages, un-merged records, query settings, and display settings.
2. Data Manager :It helps to perform a variety of functions like: Create and edit records, Override the trust settings for a record, Display information relating to a user, un-merge records and view history records. It also provides a view of the cross references related to an information.
To start the Data Manager tool: Navigate to the Data Steward workbench in the Hub console and expand it. Click Data Manager to view the Data Manager Setup screen.
Data Manager Components
Instances for Base Object Records Through a Package
- Lists the records that meet the filter criteria specified in the Search Wizard.
- The Display Package selected from the Data Manager setup screen is used to decide the columns for each record.
- The records in this section are determined by the results of the search parameters specified in the Search Wizard.
- To select multiple records Multiple Selection check box should be checked.
Cross-reference Instances
- Shows the cross-reference records for the record that is selected in the Instances for list.
- The records from the source system are pooled to form a record known as the cross-reference records.
- Cross-reference records that are created by manual edits can be removed from the base object.
- The existing cross-reference table also contains the pending cross-references. They are distinguished from others by marking as PENDING and showing in a different color.
Cell Data
Displays a list of the base object columns. Each base object column has the following properties.:
- Column Name: Name of the column.
- Trust: Current trust level associated with the column value from the selected base object.
- Base Object Cell: Column value from the selected base object.
- Cross-Reference Cell: Column value from the selected cross-reference row.
- Trust: Current trust level associated with the cross-reference value.
Data Manager Buttons
- Reset: To reset the consolidation flag to any of the following values : Queue for Matching, Queue for Merge, Set as New.
- Show History: To display the History Viewer window showing the history of changes on the selected base object record, as well as the merge history for the record. The Merge History panel shows all of the rows that were merged into this row. The Base Object History panel shows the history for the selected base object row.
- Edit Records: To edit the data values in a selected record.
- Add a Record: To display the Record Editor window that enables to add new records
- Display the Relationship Dialog: To display the Relationship Viewer, that enables to view the record’s relationships, as determined by the display package.
- Unmerge a Cross-reference: There records can be unmerged in following ways:
- Linear Unmerge : It deals with linearly unmerging a cross-reference from the base object.In this only the unmerged record is detached from the unmerge tree. Whereas, the related row in the cross-reference table is restored as its own base object row. Also, the current base object is freed from the control of that row on it.
- Tree Unmerge: Perform a tree unmerge on a cross reference from the selected base object. At the time of a tree unmerge, a whole set of merged base object records turn out to be unmerged from the original structure into an intact substructure.
To display data in Data Manager :
- Select the base object to view
- Select the package to use to display the data (PUT/Display)
- Select the single option (Search Wizard) in the Query drop-down box.
- Select the number of records to return per page.
- Set Filter criteria and query parameters.
- The Data Manager records screen is displayed.
- The Data Manager records screen displays base object records that meet the criteria you entered.
